Club gets new carpet
A BIG thanks to the members who helped out last Sunday with the removal of the carpet and bar fridge from the Dockers, the club got 2 great bargains, especially the carpet which I reckon was about $8,000 worth, which we got for $400! So thanks again to Marty Fishwick for opening up and the initial contact/idea, Life Members; Nigel, Simon, Justin, Trevor and Ron who brought his truck to cart it all. Members; Greg Deal, Garry and Jack Townsend, and players; Jimmy Morse, Jimmy Nettleton and Casey Eaves.
We have 2 more important working bees coming up…Sat 24th July at 8am to empty the clubrooms of tables and chairs and remove the old carpet and get ready for the laying of the new and Sun 25th at 8am to help the expert to lay the new carpet. We need at least 6 people to carry the carpet rolls. Each bee will only be for around 2 hours, but we need 6 – 10 people. Please put this in the diaries now and get out and support the club with these working bees.

New Sponsor Boundary Sign
Many of you will notice a new sponsor sign on the boundary fence this week. Timberland Hardware and Timber have now come on board to support the mighty Sharks.
This is a good time to thank all of our sponsors and remind everyone at the club to support them as much as we can. Don’t be afraid to thank them for their support or let them know you’re from our great club (put some club gear on). Take the time to check out our sponsors and where possible give them our business or at least the opportunity.
Looking for a night out, try the Jetty Restaurant at the Murchison Lodge, want that special gift, try The House of Cane, Balls & Bumpers, Somerset Post Office or Tuff Wear. Somerset Pharmacy and Wilkinson Pharmacy will look after your chemist needs. In need of some new tyres, try Barry Parker Tyres in Wivenhoe, plumbing job on the go, see Browns Plumbing, plaster job in the pipe line, try Ron Treloar Plasterers. Want to replace those old windows see Dargavels Windows, need insurance that suits you and your business best contact Saunders and Higgins Insurance Brokers Pty Ltd. These are a few of our sponsors.
Our sponsors help keep our club strong now and into the future. The future looks bright at the home of the Sharks.

Mid Season Presidents Report
Well more than half way through the season already and things are hectic as usual.
The mens teams are a mixed bag at present. The seniors have won some good games and been competitive in most others. The reserves have had a testing season so far but as long as they remain focused and back up their coaches efforts they will get some results for the hard work. The under 18s are a very young team and are showing improvement every week with two or three of the boys getting a run on the bench for the seniors.
The womens team are the best performed at the moment with many excellent results and a strong core of players. If the girls stick together for a few years they will become a very strong team.
All the coaches have performed admirably so far and have gained the respect of their respective teams.
Special thanks go to a number of club members: Bobby Eaves and assistants for excellent work with local juniors at Burnie High School and Somerset Primary School. Greg Deal for continued support with sponsorships, fundraising, bar and match day assistance. Trevor Eaves for mens home game organising and of course Sandra Noble who continues to live at the club.
There are many other committee and members who have performed stirling work since the end of last season and they will be acknowledged at the annual dinner (you are not forgotten).
Remember your club appreciates any assistance you can give. If you are parent or relative of a new player feel free to approach someone on the committee if there is something you can help with (this is the way most of the present committee got involved with the SSC).
It is certainly an enjoyable thing to be part of the best soccer club in Tasmania.

Junior Development
This year is a very big season for junior development in the area as numbers are increasing in every school I have done my best to help as many children as possible in the local region. As the clubs junior development officer I will be running anywhere from 2-6 junior club clinics with ages varying from 6-14. I am also a current member of the WSSA regional committee as Somerset primary schools local representative. Sarah Cowan is also on the committee as the minutes secretary. I coach a range of teams myself and coordinate the coaching of many others. I am coaching the under 12 WSSA representative side as a follow on from last year’s team that myself and Danny coached. We have roped Casey into coaching an under 12 development representative team. James Nettleton and myself assist with the Burnie high school training program. I co-ordinate all of Somerset primary school training as they have 8 teams and I am named as the coach for all of them. This will involve as many willing participants from the club as I can get and has already involved about 8 people. This training runs from 5.30-6.30 of a Wednesday night at the soccer club and has huge club and parent involvement. Any help will be greatly appreciated. There are three under 7 teams, under 8, under 9, under 10 and 2 opens/under12 teams, which works out to be about 85 children that can really use the help and one day be the clubs future. I am going to assist with all of the junior Yolla sides a few times during the year and again help will be appreciated. I have probably about 16 teams that I am directly associated with and plan to put my best foot forward for the club and our region. Although I am putting in some effort there are about 8-9 other teams that have directly asked for my assistance in coaching that I have unfortunately had to say no to as I only have so much time in my life. It is disappointing to see so many kids go without a proper education into the sport and we will find that majority of those kids will quit the sport sooner rather than later. I know myself that all these kids need mentoring and if we as a club provide it now, the big picture is a future for the club with hundreds of kids getting involved with Somerset people and the Somerset soccer club.
This in turn invites all the parents into our community and see we are trying to make headway in our region. By coaching rep sides it is increasing our talented junior pool and bringing ever closer the possibility of Somerset’s very own junior academy. All the work that I am doing now and the work that others have done in the past is the reason that the club has a future and until the club really notices this we can’t grow as a leader in the junior and senior footballing community so please get behind me and the children in and around the area and keep the sport growing.
Bobby Eaves

New Change Rooms Make a Huge Impression
The Sharks had the official opening of their new change room facility at 12 noon on Saturday 27th February by Mr Sid Sidebottom MP, the federal member for Braddon. Along with Bryan Green MHA, and the Mayor of the Wynyard - Waratah Council, Mr Kevin Hyland, Sid spoke about the wonderful work that the club has done and continues to do in the local community.
The opening was followed by an invitation only function in the clubrooms which was attended by invited guests and club members. It was estimated that there were over 100 people at the opening, many dressed in club polo's, a terrific sight and an indication of the strong support the members have for the club.
The change room facility took just over 2 years from start to finish, the first 12 months spent applying for grants and funding, creating a design and drawing plans and obtaining council approval. Then 15 months of building which highlighted the same strong club support with over 1700 hours of volunteer labour and 78 individual members and supporters working on the building.
The building, an extension of the existing clubroom building, contains 4 player's change rooms, a Referee's change room, a small Gymnasium, a store room and a first aid room. It also brings to nearly 50 metres, the length of under cover veranda viewing which provides spectators an ideal place to watch matches in either sunny or wet conditions.
The club received tremendous support from all the local business houses that we approached or purchased supplies from and many have taken out some form of sponsorship with the club. Greg will be busy putting their names on our web site. During the function, appreciation plaques were handed out to the following members who each put many hours into the project; Grant Wells, Nigel Brown, Kevin Forsyth, Greg Deal, Craig Macey, Jimmy Nettleton, Tyler Duniam, Garry Townsend and Bobby Eaves.
Nigel Brown gave an overview of the work that was undertaken in the construction of the building, from the initial phone call from Sid's office in 2007 up to the final painting just one week before the opening.
This was followed by a light luncheon and a tour of the facility. The Sharks senior team then moved in to the Home rooms to prepare for their match against Devonport.
A fantastic project that everyone can be proud of and a facility unmatched in the state which will serve the club for many years.
